The origin of the UEEF began at the 44th Anniversary ceremonies of an independent Africancentered school/shule in Washington, District of Columbia. The Ujamaa School, one of the oldest private schools dedicated to African culture and identity, celebrated its 44th year of existence in 2012. Members of the Universal Negro Improvement Association & African Communities League (UNIA/ACL) were in attendance. Those members of the UNIA/ACL were so impressed with the achievement and caliber of the students that we asked the school's founder what we could do to support the work of Ujamaa. We were asked to join the "Circle" and help raise money to sustain the institution.

This led to further discussions and the idea to establish a foundation to support Ujamaa Shule and provide support to all educational efforts directed toward African youth throughout the world, particularly in America and Africa. To enhance the fundraising effort, it was decided that the foundation should offer tax exemption as an incentive for donations and a more reliable way for people to contribute. Thus, the Universal Education Empowerment Foundation was established as a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Universal Education Empowerment Foundation is to provide material, financial, and technical support to independent African-centered schools and training centers throughout the world.
